Inspirational Photographers: Malcolm Wray
It’s a good idea to expose yourself to the works of other photographers, especially the better ones, and that’s what I’ve always tried to do. A few years back, I made an effort to view at least 3000 images a week, from as many different photographers as possible. As time went by, I noticed that I could scan images faster, and my mind formed what I can only describe as image templates. My mind would compare each image against its set of internally stored templates and almost instantly grade the image.
I still try to view a lot of images each week, though nowhere near 3000. Usually I start with blog entries which highlight a specific genre, such as black and white, macro, etc. What I look for are photos that cause my mind to pause and study them further (“Wait. What’s that?”), photos that are exceptional. Then if I can find the photographer’s site and their photos have the same overall high quality, I mark them down as an inspirational photographer.
My latest inspirational photographer is Malcolm Wray. I don’t remember exactly the path that led me to Malcolm’s site; but once I landed on it, I found myself saying, “Oooh, that one’s nice. It’d look good on my wall.”
A little about Malcolm Wray: He is a professional freelance photographer who is based in the southwestern English county of Gloucestershire. In addition to portraiture, Malcolm does commercial photography for a wide variety of clients, from local businesses to public bodies and multinational corporations.
