Painting with Light Photographic Technique

In the video below, Peter Bargh of ePHOTOzine.tv shows us a simple and low cost studio technique to paint with light. Peter illustrates this easy and creative technique, requiring minimal equipment, using just a flashlight and bottle.

This is a fun way to get some interesting shots. Try other objects from around your house, altering the way you illuminate each.

I got the shot above a couple of years ago using ambient light, long exposure times, and a high-intensity flashlight. It’s a simple glass vase with some post-processing and conversion to Sepia tone. Unlike Peter though, who used the flashlight to outline a bottle, I used it to highlight ripples in the vase. This is seen in the squiggly and wavy lines on the glass.
